Top 20 Books Recommended By My Toddlers

kids reading books

Reading is such a great thing to do with your kids and it’s also exciting when they enjoy a book so much, they grab and ‘read’ it on their own! We have a ton of books so it’s hard to choose just a few… but here are 20 books that my kids always enjoy (yes, they read them on their own or beg you to read 100 times 🙂 ). And what better gifts for the holidays or birthdays than a book you can enjoy for years to come!

  1. We’re Going on a Bear Hunt: A classic adventure story.
  2. Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?: Childhood favorite that teaches animals and colors.
  3. The Day Jimmy’s Boa Ate the Wash: A silly story guaranteed to bring laughter.
  4. Good Night, My Darling Baby: A sweet bedtime story you can invent a song to (I end up reading it to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star).
  5. Race Car Count: A cute story of different personalities and a wild race…teaches counting to 10 (and you can also teach colors and animals/objects from the pages).
  6. Snuggle Puppy!: Sweet book you can sing to (again, invent the tune 🙂 ) but it’s a naptime and bedtime favorite.
  7. Ten Little XXX series: Another cute series of counting adventure books. Each story focuses on particular themed characters. The boy’s favorites are Ten Little Pirates and Ten Little Robots.
  8. Mr Wrinkles: Sweet story about friendliness and teamwork.
  9. That’s Not My XXX series: These are cute books for babies to touch and feel the textures. Our favorites are That’s Not My Monster, That’s Not My Dragon, and That’s Not My Elephant.
  10. The Berenstain Bears: These stories are great for character building and managing emotions. The most popular in our house are The Berenstain Bears In The Dark, The Berenstain Bears and the Trouble with Chores, and The Berenstain Bears and The Sitter

  17. My First Bible: Simple phrases for the most common stories in the Bible. Great to teach general concepts and for them to start learning to read.
  18. Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site: A sweet bedtime story about trucks that is sure to be a favorite. I whisper the “goodnight” phrase and the kids love to join in.
